Kate Horowitz is an essayist, poet, and science writer in Maine. Her work appears in national publications including The Atlantic, Pacific Standard, bitch magazine, Bright Wall/Dark Room, The Open Notebook, Rogue Agent, Qu, and Doubleback Review. She is the co-author of Men and Angels: The Art of James C. Christensen (Greenwich Workshop Press). Her poems have been featured on matchboxes and tarot cards, as well as in anthologies on pop culture (The Poeming Pigeon: Pop Culture, The Poetry Box); destruction (DECAY, Hecate Magazine); and darkness (Dead of Winter II, Milk & Cake Press).

Kate is a contributor to renowned science blog The Last Word on Nothing, as well as a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and the National Association of Science Writers.

She is a passionate and highly regarded teacher and speaker, advising graduate students in science writing and lecturing on inclusive language, poetry, and how to write about disability and illness. She has appeared on panels for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the D.C. Science Writers Association and been featured in articles about responsible reporting and the cross-pollination of science writing with the creative arts. Her class “Body of Work: Writing Illness and Disability” debuted at Hugo House in Seattle in 2019.
